My taste in music has continually evolved over my life. I think this is a natural process for most everybody--especially as trends/styles/sounds are constantly evolving. As many of you know, I listened to hip-hop and rap religously throughout high school. My taste in music has since changed towards to softer indie/electronic/mellow hip-hop, but don't get me wrong, I still love some gritty street music once in a while. However, before my religous-like obsession with rap began, I predominantly listened to alternative tunes. The local radio station in Denver was (and I guess still is) 93.3 KTCL, and it was ALWAYS on in my room, in the car with my dad and mom, and even on my portable walkman. Although a little main-stream, I vividly remember when Semisonic came out with Closing Time. It was an instant hit, and stayed in the rotation for months. It soon became a "pop-song" and vividly remember watching the music video over, and over againg on MTV (imagine that, they acutally played music videos instead of 16 year old whooorees who are gettin preggers.) Anyway, the song became sort of a cult classic, and often frequented middle-school and most memorably summer camp dances as the last song of the night. It always meant that you better make a move on your date quick, or you weren't gonna be sucking any face at all. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure Matty Matt played it one time DT, but your gonna have to consult Andres on that one.
If you asked me how I would feel if someone tried to make a remix/update to the anthem I would spit in your face, and in a Todd accent exclaim "Go fuck ya-selfffff." Anyhow, I came across this jam yesterday by a group called the Five-One. Without losing the perfect hook, they do an excellent job of implementing sunny lyrics, and a smooth beat serving as a perfect tribute to the classic.
